Fleet Management Cyprus welcomed a senior Indian maritime delegation to discuss the development of the next generation of seafarers and the role industry plays in creating sustainable maritime careers. As one of the world's largest ship management companies and a long-standing employer of seafarers for more than three decades, Fleet shared insights from its experience in seafarer training, crew management, safety, wellbeing and career progression across its global operations.

The delegation was led by Shri Venkatesapathy S., Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and included Shri Deependra Singh Bisen, Deputy Director General, Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA); H.E. Mr. Manish, High Commissioner of India to Cyprus; and Shri Subhash Jangala, First Secretary (Economic & Commerce), High Commission of India in Cyprus.
During the visit, the delegation met with Rohit Tandon, General Manager, QHSE, and Fleet representatives to discuss seafarer development and opportunities for closer collaboration across the maritime sector.
Fleet's experience as one of the world's largest ship managers and a significant employer of seafarers formed the foundation of discussions on training, employability, career progression and workforce readiness. The company shared practical insights from its global operations, including its approach to competency-based training, safety leadership, wellbeing programmes and structured career development initiatives designed to help seafarers build long-term careers at sea.
The discussions explored several issues shaping the future of maritime employment and safe vessel operations, including seafarer welfare, mental wellness, behaviour-based safety, cyber security, initiatives to increase the participation of women at sea, geopolitical developments affecting global shipping and the evolving skills required by the industry.
Participants also discussed how industry and government can work together to strengthen career pathways for Indian ratings and officers, enhance workforce preparedness and support the continued growth of India's maritime sector.
