To celebrate International Day for Women in Maritime, Fleet Management are highlighting the experiences of our women seafarers who are helping to shape a more inclusive future at sea. This year’s theme, “An Ocean of Opportunities for Women”, reflects the growing presence and impact of women across all areas of the maritime industry. Tune back in everyday this week to hear from stories from our different women seafarers.

Second Officer Pooja Dandapat shares her journey in the maritime industry, what she treasures most about life on board, and the advice she offers to the next generation.
Pooja’s path to a maritime career was guided by a lifelong interest in challenging yet meaningful work. With a father in the defence forces, she grew up drawn to roles that demanded resilience and adventure.
“Since childhood, I was always interested in opting for a challenging career, the merchant navy is exactly that. There is always something new to learn, and we get to experience the cultures of the countries we visit.”
For Pooja, the greatest rewards of life at sea come from the connection to the natural world, she speaks with an appreciation about the experience of being surrounded by the ocean.
“I love seeing the waves, feeling the wind blow, and watching the moonlight on the open sea, Encounters with dolphins and whales, as well as passing through some of the world’s most beautiful coastal areas.”
When asked what advice she would give to other young women considering a similar career, Pooja keeps her message clear.
“Stay strong on board and give your best in the workplace, work hard and shine to inspire our future SHEfarers.”
At Fleet Management, we are proud to support women like Pooja who lead with strength and purpose. We remain committed to creating greater opportunities for women in maritime and to building an environment where all seafarers are recognised, respected and given the space to succeed
