Our state-of-the-art training institute in India bears testament to our commitment to crew training and development.

Fleet Management Training Institute (FMTI) in Mumbai, India is DNV certified and officially approved as a Maritime Training Centre. In 2018, we took on an additional 50,000 square feet of space in our Mumbai office, to house an expanded training institute that trains our seafarers through 40 simulator and classroom-led courses. The institute now has a world-class ME Engine Simulator in addition to our existing ECDIS, bridge and engine simulators.

FMTI’s courses comply with the requirements of the STCW 95 Convention and the guidelines of Directorate General of Shipping, India.

Every year, we train around 18,000 seafarers for various short-term courses, a number that has been growing at 7% in 2018. To make training relevant to our seafarers, we identify the training needs from around 35,000 near-miss reports raised by our seafarers, each year. Based on the analysis, we introduce 4-6 new training courses and several training modules every year.

Our web-based training platform, TOLAS “Training on Land and Sea” train seafarers remotely from the various locations closer to their home town. Our TOLAS centres are set up in all our recruitment offices in India, China, Philippines and Eastern Europe.

We employ the most technologically advanced simulators (230-degree full-mission Bridge Simulators) and audio-visual aids (DGS approved), which are also backed up by real-life demonstrations and lectures, to provide seamless and fully integrated ship-to-shore training for every seafarer.

To make a positive contribution to the industry, FMTI also provides quality ECDIS training to both Superintendents and Class Surveyors alongside seafarers.
