Our newly launched FLEET SafeView app – available on both Android and iOS platforms – provides full end-to-end capability for conducting vessel inspections, analysing data and providing recommendations to vessel owners. This app also allows us to identify key trends and issues to drive improvements in operational performance.

SafeView has digitally revolutionised our approach to inspections and allowed us to confidently conduct remote inspections while collaborating with our onboard crew. This has led to more efficient, accurate and transparent processes which have significantly benefited both our team and owners.

FLEET typically completes more than 1,000 vessel inspections every six months in our role as ship manager.

To enhance the efficiency and accuracy of these inspections, we have developed a new app named ‘SafeView’, which we first piloted, incorporated an auditing function and then rolled out across our operations in the second quarter of 2022.

SafeView has digitally revolutionised the way we conduct, hold and display information relating to and resulting from these inspections. Previously, vessel inspections relied on multiple and manual data entry points.

Now, using the SafeView app, all inspection data is directly validated and inputted, which is then automatically shared with the relevant onshore and offshore personnel. From this, our FLEET team can provide effective recommendations to safeguard the vessel and meet ship owners’ increasing requirements to better track and measure safety and environmental compliance.

The app incorporates more than 900 inspection questions according to the type of vessel, organised across 12 sections with specific guidelines. This ensures a high-quality, standardised inspection approach despite any differences in the levels of experience of inspectors. Overall, this has led to more efficient, accurate and transparent inspection and recommendation processes.

Delivering real-time analytics and transparency

A key highlight of SafeView is its functionality to allow our team and owners to analyse data in real-time, resulting in improved performance reporting. This enables more effective technical and operational decisions. SafeView has a systematic scoring system, which gives the vessel owner full transparency of their vessel’s performance.

In addition, the data captured from SafeView can be used by FLEET’s NOVA – the data analytics platform of our proprietary PARIS 2.0 platform – which utilises machine learning and predictive analytics to prevent incidents, accidents and failures onboard ships.

SafeView is fully integrated into PARIS 2.0, which provides a range of additional benefits. For example, if a defect is reported, once it has been reviewed by the Group head and senior management, it will automatically flow through for follow-up by our technical teams without requiring any data re-entry.

Any follow-up activities are then conducted through PARIS 2.0, meaning that the end-to-end journey has full visibility for both the vessel and shore-based staff – with all relevant data points captured to allow for trend analysis.

Supporting inspections and audits at the highest industry standards

SafeView comprises the entire suite of inspection and audit-related services.

We have ensured that the inspection questionnaire within the app goes beyond statutory requirements, after benchmarking it against the highest industry standards such as the OCIMF Vessel Inspection Questionnaire, SIRE and Port State Control Codes. This provides vessel owners confidence that the SafeView app can support the vessel’s performance, safety and environmental compliance.

Driving continual improvement

This digitisation of the inspection process has supported FLEET’s journey of continuous improvement and innovation – helping us optimise the performance and operational excellence of more than 600 vessels under our technical management.

FLEET is committed to continuously reviewing and updating our inspection processes, and SafeView is a key tool to allow us to do this. The app can be easily updated to remain current with the emerging technology, systems and features onboard newly-built vessels, and adapt inspection content to be in line with the latest policies and regulations.

The user-friendly app has been developed to work on both iOS and Android platforms – including on computers/laptops, phones and tablets – to support increasingly flexible ways of working.

With this app fully rolled out, we are now using the inspection data generated across our fleet to drive analytical capability that will help identify insights from this data – and making this available through our NOVA platform. The initial dashboards are underway, so we expect to share further insights from this in the coming months.
