The Caravel Group’s private charity organisation – The Caravel Foundation – has donated a significant amount towards building new educational facilities in Turkey, following the devastating sequence of earthquakes in early February.

Two massive earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 shook the region within a period of 10 hours, followed by more than 2,000 aftershocks. The earthquakes resulted in a large death toll and affected more than 13.5 million people, as well as causing the widespread destruction of housing, schools and other essential infrastructure.

In response to this disaster, The Caravel Foundation has donated to the GSD Education Foundation to support the building of a school and other educational facilities in the area.

The GSD Education Foundation has a proven track record in supporting and improving educational opportunities in Turkey for decades. For example, the Foundation has built and continually supported four elementary schools, including one in Yalova after the 1999 Izmit earthquake.

The GSD Education Foundation anticipates receiving the initial permits from the authorities soon to begin the project, and will provide The Caravel Foundation’s Board of Directors regular updates to inform on progress.
