Mr Harindarpal (“Harry”) Singh Banga is the founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Caravel Group, a diversified conglomerate focused on the provision of leading maritime services, the trading of industrial dry bulk raw materials, investment management activities and strategic asset ownership.

Mr Banga founded The Caravel Group in 2013, and has been the key architect in the establishment, growth and expansion of the Group since inception. Mr Banga is actively involved in managing the Group and serves on the Board of (and Chairs) each of the Caravel Group subsidiary companies, as well as all Management Committees.

Prior to founding The Caravel Group, Mr Banga was the Vice Chairman of Noble Group, a leading global supply chain manager of commodity products, listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, which he helped to establish in 1989. As Vice Chairman, Mr Banga’s responsibilities on the Board of Directors included membership of the Nominating, Corporate Governance, Finance and Operations, Government Relations, and Investment and Capital Markets Committees.

Mr Banga holds the title of Honorary Fellow of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), which was conferred in October 2018. In addition, he is a Member of the Court of CityU, an Honorary Vice President of the CityU Foundation and on the Advisory committee of the Centre for Transport, Trade and Financial Studies at CityU. Mr. Banga is also a Member of the Steering Committee of the Capital Campaign program for CityU.

In January 2011, the then President of India, Mrs. Pratibha Patil, conferred the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award on Mr Banga for his outstanding achievements in the field of business, valuable contribution in promoting the honor and prestige of India and in fostering the needs of overseas Indians. Moreover, the Directorate General of Shipping, India and the National Maritime Day Celebrations Committee conferred the “NMD Award of Excellence” on Mr Banga on the 55th National Maritime Day Celebrations in 2018.

In 2019, Mr Banga was recognized and awarded by the Economic Times as the “Most Influential Business Leader of Asia” during the Asian Business Leaders Conclave. Mr Banga was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Bulk Journal in 2016, which followed his “Personality of the Year” award in 2011 by the same publication. In addition, also in 2011, Mr. Banga was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Seatrade Maritime. In 2014, Mr. Banga was designated as one of the “Most Influential Indians” by the Diaspora World. Mr Banga was also awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Samudra Manthan Awards in 2015. In the same year Mr Banga was also recognized as the Best Entrepreneur (Asia Pacific) in the Times Now-ICICI Bank ‘NRI of the Year’ Awards.

In addition, Mr Banga is the Founder of the Forum of Indian Professionals in Hong Kong, as well as being heavily involved with several charitable organizations across Hong Kong and India.
